A message from Marty at Fit Werx.
Rich was 53, a husband and father and just a great guy. His loss is devastating to all of us who knew him. I’m sure a number of the team would remember seeing Rich and me swim at Stiles Pond. He always had a smile on his face and always happy to meet new people. He is sorely missed….
As many of your teammates know, a good friend of ours, Rich Angelo, drowned while competing at the USAT Nationals in Burlington, VT on 8/18.
On Sunday morning, November 11th at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA we will be holding the R11A 5K Run/Walk in Rich’s honor. We will award cash prizes to the top 5 male and top 5 female winners ($300, $200, $150, $75 & $50) and we hope to have a minimum of 250 athletes.
Paul, this is such an unfortunate situation and it could have happened to any one of us while racing. I think in some way it would be easier to deal with if Rich died of a heart attack. He did not. He was in peak physical and mental condition, but was somehow overcome in the water and drowned. By the time he was finally pulled from the water and a valiant effort to resuscitate him ensued it was too late.
If you could please ask your team to join us it would mean a lot. Below is the website with a link to the registration page. Thank you for your help. –Marty
