TriFury Saturday Ride 4/26 starts at 8:30AM, and then 5/3 on we start at 7:30AM
This week we'll ride at 8:30 and then starting on May 3rd we'll start at 7:30AM from then on through the end of September. Suzanne Kavanagh will be the host this week, thank you Suzanne.
Last week we had 9 riders, lets see if we can double that number!
Last night I remarked all the turns so it should be reasonably easy to follow the course as long as you keep and eye for road markings before every intersection. The marking to look for is a white arrow in paranthesis with a red underline.
For directions, go here. http://www.trifury.com/sessions.aspx

Let the Rides Begin!
Saturday, April 5th, will be our first official 2008 TriFury group bike ride.
We will meet at the Hermann Youth Center Parking Lot in North Andover Mass at 10:30AM. We will have a short 5 minute discussion about the ride guidelines, cycling etiquette and safety concerns before heading out.
To catch the warmer temperatures, we will start at 10:30AM for the first 2 weeks, then move the start time to 7:30 AM beginning Saturday April 19th. Please allow yourself plenty of time to unload your bike and be ready. Helmets are mandatory.
This normal ride route is 30.5 miles through Boxford, Georgetown and Middleton and is for all levels of riders, but there's a shortcut route that will give you about 20 miles if you're not up to going all 30 miles right away.
NO ONE GETS DROPPED. If you haven't been on a TriFury group ride in the past, please don't feel intimidated, we're a friendly bunch of very mixed levels cyclists, our fast group averages just over 20MPH and others who are content to average anywhere from 14MPH on up at this ride. The course is reasonably flat and scenic and smooth, with only two 1/2 mile long moderate hills of reasonable challenge. You should come equiped with your own water and flat tire repair supplies.
Directions: Take I-495 exit 43 (MASS. AVE.) towards N. ANDOVER,
Continue on MASSACHUSETTS AVE - go 1.6 mi. Mass Ave becomes Salem St at the new rotary, go straight through the rotary and take a right ino the first parking lot.
Arrive at 33 JOHNSON ST, NORTH ANDOVER

Re: 2008 TriFury race series
Wanted to clarify a few things about the Team Select Race Series, especially for newer members: 1) Your participation in Team Selected Races as a Volunteer or Relay Team Member can count for up to 3 races. This can be a combination of volunteering at one race (specifically designated as volunteer on the list below) and being on a relay for two races. Or, being on a relay for one and volunteering for two. As an example, to get to 6 Races, you can: --> Volunteer at Danskin and Cohasset (2), --> Do a relay at Timberman 1/2 IM (1) and --> Complete the Wrentham Winter Du, Spring Fling and Mooseman Olympic (3) 2) For Relay participation, all relay members must be TriFury members...this is a great way to meet new people, try your first triathlon and/or still race with your teammates even if an injury prevents you from training in all 3 disciplines. If you're looking for relay teammates, post here - you will likely have lots of takers! 3) You must be a member at the time of the race for it to count towards your year end total. 4) We will again have year end "goodies" for everyone who participates in 3-5 Team Select Races as well as something extra cool for those who do 6+ races. We've had some really great prizes in years past, so if you can fit 3 or more of these into your calendar, you won't be disappointed! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at azdressage1@yahoo.comThanks & happy training- Jocelyn |

Message from the President
Dear TriFury friends,
As we enter another year of swimming, biking and running, my hope if that TriFury will continue to prosper. TriFury is about to enter its 6th full year, thanks to past leadership and active members we are very much alive and well. At the end of January there will be a new procedure to renew your membership. This year you will be given an option to join TriFury alone, or add on an MVS membership also. The choice is yours. TriFury base membership for 2008 is $25 for individuals, $35 for families, and $10 optional MVS membership add- on. We welcome athletes of all levels of ability.
The strength of our club is determined by the energy and dedication of the members. When you join TriFury you WILL be expected to contribute to the club in someway. Our club is now the largest in New England, there are many tasks, which need to be completed to continue our success, and many of these tasks can be split between several members. There are many opportunities to help the club, anything from setting up the TriFury tent, leading a group training session, updating the website information, race day photographer and helping out at our clinics. If you would like to take on a more active role there are several committee positions available. If you need help finding a job, let me know.
In 2008 TriFury will continue to offer
* Weekly group training sessions * Two free triathlon clinics * Year end party, cookout, social hours * TriFury night at a Lowell Spinners baseball game * Discounts at Tri-Zone, Cycle Loft and other sponsors/supporters (one purchase could pay for your yearly membership, in the amount saved) * Selected race series * Access to purchase team uniforms * Access to coach's Sharon Johnson and Bill Steele * Camaraderie and support from other members
I look forward to working with each of you to continue to make TriFury the best club around. I welcome any suggestions to improve OUR club.
Enjoy the ride in 2008 (the swim and run too)
Sincerely,
Paul Sedgwick 2008 TriFury President pds27@comcast. net

Mill Cities Team and Leg Assignments
Here are the team and leg assignments. If there are any issues please let me know right away, at this point your team is counting on you to be there next Sunday morning to run your leg.
Each runner is responsible to pay their captain the $12 entry fee on or before race morning. Cash or check payable to Dave Tyler.
Please wear something TriFury red and/or maroon if you have it so we can find each other in the crowd as well as of course look good.
A road relay race can get complicated if the team doesn't work together and do a little homework. Every year a few runners miss their start, to the dismay of their awaiting teammates. If you have not run the MCR's leg you've been assigned this year, and even if you have (since there's been changes every year) its highly advised that you familiarize yourself with the information on the Mill Cities website.
The final finish line is at the Claddaugh Pub in Lawrence this year. 399 Canal St., in Lawrence.
Especially important is information about the start of leg 1 and the start of leg 5 Sunset start by 11:15 even if your leg 4 runner hasn't made it yet here. (actual times will be added together) http://www.millcities.com/mcrinfo.htm
(none of us are doing the delayed "Sunshine Start")
And information about each leg here
Try to bring a little extra water to give to your teammates during their run, since no official water stops exist.
|
|
Lastly, please connect with your team captain about how to car pool, e.g. most teams meet at the finish line at 6:30AM then carpool from there to the start and work together throughout the course.
Email your captain so you can work out any details you need.

Last Call for Mill Cities
deadline to respond Friday Nov 23, 2007 Noon The Mill Cities Relay is a great end of the year multiclub 5 leg relay road race event. http://www.millciti es.com/. As TriFury, we're not looking to win it, just have some fun and have an excuse to run on the flat streets along the Merrimack from Nashua to Lawrence on Sunday Dec 2nd. And oh, go to the party at the end. The event is put on by the running clubs of the Merrimack Valley are as a celebration of team spirit and and end of the season party.
Two years ago, we had 7 TriFury Teams, rather equally matched with TriFury Maroon battling the snow, ice, the cold, overturned cars and surprise 5th leg 11AM start to take the honors for the 2005 Mill Cities TriFury cup.
Last year, we had 6 TriFury Teams, with The TriFury Red Team earning top TriFury honors, even with Steve Sarro running the last two legs combined, besting by 10 minutes the long running Thor and his TriFury Cyclone.
|
|
And since TriFury is affiliated with MVS, the MVS Board of Directors to show their support of the event has approved the donation of $3 per MVS/Trifury runner to the MVS Scholarship Fund so by running you'll be helping out a good cause at the same time.
THE COURSE: 27.1 miles, run in five legs starting in Nashua at the YMCA following the scenic Merrimack River through Lowell finishing in Lawrence at the new finish line and party spot, the Claddagh Pub, 399 Canal St., Lawrence, MA.
LEG LENGTHS: 5.6, 4.75, 2.5, 9.5, and 4.75 Miles.
Please reply to me (DavidATyler@ yahoo.com) if you're interested in running on a TriFury relay team, EVERYONE is welcome. Also, if you're willing to be a team captain, please let me know. If you'd prefer a certain distance leg also say so. I will make up teams 1 week before the race as equally matched for total time as possible so we can compete amongst ourselves in a very fun way. The cost is $12 for each person who signs up for each leg that agree to run. If you cancel in the last week, you will still owe me $12.
The absolute deadline to sign up with me for a TriFury team is Wednesday November 21st since the race now cuts off registration way ahead of race day. You do not need to be fast, but you do need to want to have some fun.

TriFury Water Stop at Feaster Five - Volunteers needed
Hello Tri Fury Members,
On Thursday, November 22 we will all gather with friends and family to give thanks fro all that we have. What better way to begin the day than to give thanks for our good health? Start your Thanksgiving Day by volunteering for the annual Feaster Five Road Race. Tri Fury will be responsible for a water stop along the 5K course. You will need to arrive between 7:00-7:30 am and your duties will include setting up the water table and cups, handing water to the runners, picking up discarded cups and breaking down the table. Encouraging the runners and seeing many of your friends and teammates are also highlights of working the water stop.
For your efforts you will not only begin your Thanksgiving Day with the warm, fuzzy feeling that volunteering gives us all, but you will also get a fabulous Feaster Five Volunteer Tee shirt!
Why not make this a family affair? Get those kiddos up early and come on out!
Please contact me back door if you are interested in volunteering or if you have any questions.
Include how many in your group and what size tee shirts you all wear.
Thanks!

Outdoor November Swims
Nov 1, 2007. Is the outdoor swimming season over in northeastern Massachusetts? Not yet for a few TriFurians. Today Lisa Hodge, Jim Marsh, Dan Stewart and Kathi Davis faced 57 degree water today at Silver Lake in Wilmington.. Tomorrow Friday Nov 2nd at 4:30PM a few may make what could be their final Stiles Pond swim of the year. Join us if you dare, I'll be sure to bring my camera for proof. This is not for the faint of heart, its headache and finger numbing cold and can be dangerous if you're not experienced at cold water swimming. But if you're still at it, send me a picture and I'll post it on this TriFury website.

Danskin 2007
July 29, 2007 from Jason Hoyt
Sorry if I missed someone or a team.
There were 2,098 finishers. This is a .5 mile swim, a tough 12 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run. Katy Van Dyne and Nicole Downer, I believe were part of a team. This was Sherrie Vigeant's first ever tri, coached by Sharon Johnson. Caroline Kavanagh placing 2nd in her division, coached also by Sharon. The wonder Esther Pelletier placing 2nd in her age. I think this may have been Stephanie Delude's first tri also.
Congratulations ladies!

Ironman Lake Placid
Monday July 23, 2007. by Dave Tyler
What an unbelievable experience! A day like no other. From 4AM Sunday morning until 1AM Sunday night, every minute saw challenge and triumph. Incredible accomplishments. Each and every TriFurian finished with a story to tell. Hopefully we'll hear from them over the coming weeks. From my perspective as a specatator let me just say that it was as inspirational a day as I have ever experienced. Our clubmates, Ted MacMahon, Nancy Flaherty, Anthony Ong, Pattie Dalconzo, Mike Loiselle, Andy Smith, Patrick Sheridan, Lisa Corbett, Wayne White, James Madigan, Valerie Koloseus, Maureen Hangac, Amanda Davis, Adam Cooper, Christine Cooper, Kim Smieja, Jocelyn Cascio, Bob Doolin, Robin Cain, and Christopher Clement all became Ironmen yesterday. We are all very very proud to be their friends and teamates.
Thanks to all of those TriFury members, family and friends who came all the way up to Lake Placid and showed such a great passion for supporting these Ironmen. YOU made the day very special for these amazing atheletes.

Danskin Volunteers needed
TriFury has been asked to help out at Danskin. This is really cool, because if we supply 15 volunteers, we can earn $500 for our TriFury club. They need us to do a combination of waterstops, transition and passing out sports beans plus help with body marking.
Please reply to let me know if you can help out.

Debut of the new TriFury bike course
On Saturday July 14th we roll out the brand NEW route for the Saturday bike rides. We've discovered some much nicer, quieter, smoother, more scenic roads in the area and I know you'll like them. The roads we've been riding on have become too busy and have grown too many potholes.
The new course is 30 miles, however the route is easily shortened to 12, 18 or 21 miles if you don't want to go all 30 miles on a particular day.
Introducing the new course:
note you can check out the elevation by checking the "display elevation" button on the left side of this link.
Join us at 7:30AM tomorrow or any Saturday morning through September. Meet at 33 Johnson St North Andover 01845. (Hermann Youth Center Parking Lot).
Email or call me if you have any questions 978-580-6710.

Free Flat Tire Repair Clinic
On Saturday July 14th we will be holding a hands on flat tire repair clinic in North Andover at 10 AM at the Hermann Youth Center parking lot and at the conclusion of the weekly TriFury bike ride. If you don't have experience in changing a flat then you probably don't want to gain that first experience alone during a long ride or worse during a race with no repair truck in sight. Come on down, whether you're doing the group ride or not, and we'll help you hands on right there change your own tube and become capable of getting back on the road in less than 5 minutes after a flat. Expect the clinic to end at 10:30AM.
Location: 33 Johnson St. North Andover Mass. 01845.
What do you need? 1) Your front wheel and tire,2) a spare tube, 3) 2 co2 cartridges and 4)inflator nozzle, 5) 3 tire irons. (if you don't have a co2 kit yet, I highly recommend one, otherwise, a standard bike pump will do).
Don't forget the weekly Friday night Stiles swims continue tonight and through the summer, if you're new to TriFury or to these swims, come on over and introduce yourself, there's been between 15 and 20 TriFury swimmers there each week. |

Patriot Half Ironman
Freetown Mass. July 1, 2007 from Jason Hoyt
My view from the side lines. This was the first time for this race,
The water was rough, a little choppy and some white caps. Visions of Coeur d'Alene! The 56 mile bike was actually 60 miles. The 13.1 mile run was actually 14 miles with many rolling hills. It was a very nice day for racing, cool for spectators. It was a first half iron for many. Especially with the extra 4 miles there were some outstanding times for Andrea, Eric, Christopher, Terry W., Robin and Terry C.? Denise Kwok first half iron relay, she did the swim. Sharon Johnson please teach Andrea to swim, she could be winning these races!!
Craig was first Tri Fury in. He was sooo aero on the bike that I could not recognize him, he looked short and stocky which he is not, thus he was first on the bike. Nancy took first in her age, great prep for KONA! Paul first in the swim, strong effort for the day. Andrea the runner but
Sharon took her by seconds. Eric has healed and had a great race. Christopher, new member, great first half. Mark we won't say anything about the bet. Patrick is in terrific shape for Lake Placid, rest well now Mountain Man! The Cooper's are ready for LP. Cesar is getting very fit and pacing his training well for Kentucky. Rob is also looking very fit and ready for LP. Jocelyn is ready for LP. Deb was having a great race until she flatted at the bottom of the hill on mile 58. Dave,
Joe, Tony, Ann, Ron, Terry W., Robin, Terry C. all raced very strong. Congratulations everyone.

come true! Tom 3rd in his age. Christine, your running looks good, I hope the back is getting better. Lisa 4th in her age and beating out her younger sister Valerie. Will it be neck and neck at Lake Placid? Wayne 4th in his age. Joe, his first Half, nice job Joe! Stephanie's relay team 1st.
Ed's relay team 3rd and Ed did the International the day before. Everyone is looking good for Ironman!
Congratulations!
At the Olympic Distance Race on Saturday, the swim is 1.5K or .93 of a mile, the bike is 44K or 27.25 miles, the run is 10K or 6.2 miles. Mark Danieli missed 2nd by 20 seconds. Ed Galante finished wll, considering he had no run training, as he is recovering from knee surgery. This was Ann Kingsland's first International distance race, had only done sprints prior. Eric Bart raced recovering from a pulled leg muscle. Good to see Keith Rogers back. Cogratulations everyone!
This was Bruce's first International distance tri. He is like most, a converted runner to a triathlete.
It was also Robin Nadeau's 1st Olympic Triathlon. A major breakthrough after injury last year. Congratulations!
