Next 8 week Session of Coached Swim Workouts

The first 4 weeks of the 8 week session will be held at Lawrence YMCA from 6:30-8:00 AM Tuesdays, beginning May 6, 2008.   The last 4 sessions will be held the same time at Stiles Pond, assuming the weather is cooperative.  The cost of one workout/week is $125 for the 8 week session.

TriFury Saturday Ride 4/26 starts at 8:30AM,  and then 5/3 on we start at 7:30AM

This week we'll ride at 8:30 and then starting on May 3rd we'll start at 7:30AM from then on through the end of September.  Suzanne Kavanagh will be the host this week, thank you Suzanne.

Last week we had 9 riders,  lets see if we can double that number!

Last night I remarked all the turns so it should be reasonably easy to follow the course as long as you keep and eye for road markings before every intersection.  The marking to look for is a white arrow in paranthesis with a red underline.

Let the Rides Begin!

Saturday, April 5th
, will be our first official 2008 TriFury group bike ride.
We will meet at the Hermann Youth Center Parking Lot in North Andover Mass at 10:30AM.  We will have a short 5 minute discussion about the ride guidelines, cycling etiquette and safety concerns before heading out.

To catch the warmer temperatures, we will start at 10:30AM for the first 2 weeks, then move the start time to 7:30 AM  beginning Saturday April 19th. Please allow yourself plenty of time to unload your bike and be ready.  Helmets are mandatory.

This normal ride route is 30.5 miles through Boxford, Georgetown and Middleton and is for all levels of riders, but there's a shortcut route that will give you about 20 miles if you're not up to going all 30 miles right away.

NO ONE GETS DROPPED.   If you haven't been on a TriFury group ride in the past, please don't feel intimidated,  we're a friendly bunch of very mixed levels cyclists, our fast group averages just over 20MPH and others who are content to average anywhere from 14MPH on up at this ride.   The course is reasonably flat and scenic and smooth, with only two 1/2 mile long moderate hills of reasonable challenge.  You should come equiped with your own water and flat tire repair supplies.

Directions:
Take I-495 exit 43 (MASS. AVE.) towards N. ANDOVER,
Continue on MASSACHUSETTS AVE - go 1.6 mi.  Mass Ave becomes Salem St at the new rotary,  go straight through the rotary and take a right ino  the first parking lot.
Arrive at 33 JOHNSON ST, NORTH ANDOVER

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Announcing TriFury's 2008 Selected Race Series

Our Selected Race Series list with links to the race websites is now posted.   Click on the words Selected Races under "racing" on the left side bar.

Some races are already sold out, such as Cohasset, Timberman 70.3 and
Lake Placid. Others will sell out soon so plan your schedule soon!
Good Luck in 2008!!
Re: 2008 TriFury race series

Wanted to clarify a few things about the Team Select Race Series,
especially for newer members:

1) Your participation in Team Selected Races as a Volunteer or Relay
Team Member can count for up to 3 races. This can be a combination
of volunteering at one race (specifically designated as volunteer on
the list below) and being on a relay for two races. Or, being on a
relay for one and volunteering for two. As an example, to get to 6
Races, you can:

--> Volunteer at Danskin and Cohasset (2),
--> Do a relay at Timberman 1/2 IM (1) and
--> Complete the Wrentham Winter Du, Spring Fling and Mooseman
Olympic (3)

2) For Relay participation, all relay members must be TriFury
members...this is a great way to meet new people, try your first
triathlon and/or still race with your teammates even if an injury
prevents you from training in all 3 disciplines. If you're looking
for relay teammates, post here - you will likely have lots of takers!

3) You must be a member at the time of the race for it to count
towards your year end total.

4) We will again have year end "goodies" for everyone who
participates in 3-5 Team Select Races as well as something extra
cool for those who do 6+ races. We've had some really great prizes
in years past, so if you can fit 3 or more of these into your
calendar, you won't be disappointed!

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at
azdressage1@yahoo.com

Thanks & happy training-
Jocelyn

Cycling Safety Tips
Obey traffic signs and signals - Bicycles must follow the rules of the road like other vehicles.
Never ride against traffic - Motorists aren't looking for bicyclists riding on the wrong side of the road. State law and common sense require that bicyclists drive like other vehicles.
Keep both hands ready to brake - You may not stop in time if you brake one-handed. Allow extra distance for stopping in the rain, since breaks are less efficient when wet.
Use hand signals - Hand signals tell motorists and pedestrians what you intend to do. Signal as a matter of law, of courtesy, and of self-protection.
Keep your bike in good repair - Adjust your bike to fit you and keep it working properly. Check brakes and tires regularly. Routine maintenance is simple and you can learn to do it yourself.
